May 6, 2026 Meeting Minutes

Meeting opened at 6:32 pm with a call to order.

Members Present:

Derek Daniels, Val Reynolds, Sharon Spiker, Pat Wiedhopf, Miki

Zeman, Sara Read, Laurie Pumphrey, Mitch Kagen, Jacob Byron.

Minutes of the May 6, 2026 Meeting:

Minutes from the 04/13/26 meeting were approved unanimously (motion by Val, seconded by Sharon).

Treasurer’s Report:

• Membership update: We are still at 40 households.

• Membership account balance as of April 7, 2026: $3,690.80

• Donor Plaque account balance as of April 7, 2026: $3,675.93

• Archaeology account balance as of April 7, 2026: $4,252.06

Website Update/Facebook Page

Sara advised that the minutes were posted to the website and current updates to the

Facebook page.

Park Stewardship:

Sharon is next member scheduled.

Business/Updates:

• Tucson Police Division Advisory Committee (DAC) Meeting: This occurred April 23,

2026 at the TPD Eastside Substation. Mitch indicated there was representation from

various city departments including the Ward 4 office, but Parks and Recreation was not

present. TPD Operations Division east staff has a lot of turnover but continues to be

responsive. The crowd was a bit hostile to the Mayor and Council staff present overall.

• Eegee’s: this is scheduled for May 16 at 2:00 p.m. Miki will bring cookies; Jake will

pickup two tubs of flavors; Pat will provide two tables; Derek will bring garbage can and

paper towels; Laurie will bring gloves; Val will bring list of members. A donation jar is

suggested for those nonmembers that show up.

• Brush and Bulky: this is scheduled for week of June 8th. There are small piles at the

park that should be brought out; the board should organize a small cleanup and move

these to the curb which can be further discussed at the next meeting.

• Casa Real proposal for children’s park: Derek mentioned that Patti had provided

updates on the park; Councilmember Cunningham had previously mentioned basketball

court per Pat. Interested parties for the court did not show up to their board meeting.

• U of A Stargazing: They have not been contacted yet, but the board should followup

later after determining specifics. October may be a good date to schedule; research to

be done on what stars and events may be visible. A mention on the newsletter should

be added looking for people with astronomy interest and capability.

• Cultural Park proposal: The proposal needs to be in by June. Val will work with Sandra

to complete.

• Membership drive: the board will brainstorm at the social.
