6. Business/Updates:
• Tucson Police Division Advisory Committee (DAC) Meeting: This is scheduled for April 23, 2026 at the TPD Eastside Substation. Presentation will include crime updates, info from other departments, homeless protocol updates, and availability to answer citizen questions.
• Election results: Posted to web page.
• Rolloffs: These were a success. We will consider opening the doors for ease of access the next time.
• Cultural Park: The irrigation renovation has to do with the walking path. Drinking
fountain has been fixed. There are funds for adobe repair, but Ward 2 has not gotten back to VDR. An assessment may be needed.
• Wash Cleanup: We need to contact Steve LaTurco with City of Tucson Environmental Services Department to discuss the “Team up to Clean up” program they support.
• Spring activities: Input for ideas was requested by Derek. Some ideas proposed were an ice cream social and a stargazing party with telescopes. Potentially this can be scheduled with the U of A as they provide star parties for a fee (see their website). The board decided to schedule something sooner, so we will have a social with Eegee’s and cookies instead of ice cream. May 16, 2026 at 2-4 pm at the Cultural Park was decided upon and will go out in the newsletter shortly.
• Casa Rio proposal for children’s park: An individual in that neighborhood proposed to Ward 2 an expansion of this area to include a basketball court. No status on if this will be considered or approved by the Ward, but we feel it will require our approval as well.
• Theft: Derek mentioned that he observed someone who may have been stealing from a truck bed; we should all keep an eye out.
• Cultural Park proposal: The proposal needs to be in by June. Val expressed interest in working on this.
• Newsletter: The next newsletter should aim to be published by May 1 for distribution. Pat will print these and Derek will provide a template to Laurie for formatting. We should add a list of things done, success with rolloffs, push for memberships, etc.
